- Massive earthquake shakes China
More than 19,500 people have died in a massive earthquake that rocked southwestern China on May 12. NCM will take action through their partner relationships as they seek the generous support of local congregations around the world.
- Deadly storms kill 22 across U.S. Midwest, Southeast
On Saturday, May 10, a deadly tornado—at times, a mile wide—blew winds estimated up to 175 miles per hour, tracking a total of 63 miles from Oklahoma to Southwest Missouri, according to the National Weather Service. Twenty-two people were killed.

The countdown has begun! The 27th General Assembly and Conventions are just a year away. Our church leadership has outlined a series of ambitious goals for the upcoming event scheduled to be held in Orlando, Florida, June 24 – July 3, 2009. The event will be educational, inspirational and uplifting. Moreover, General Assembly is an ideal opportunity for families to unite and share in their faith. It’s also a chance for attendees to learn more about their extended church family, meet fellow members from around the nation and the world, and participate in local mission projects. Because of this, one of our top priorities is to increase participation.

Former Kansas City D.S. Keith M. Wright was recently appointed interim district superintendent of the Oregon-Pacific District.

Cyclone Nargis slammed through a 30,000 square kilometer coastal area of Myanmar May 2, leaving destruction and death in its wake. There are 21 Nazarene churches in Myanmar.
- SNU students place in national horse show
Three Southern Nazarene University students from the school’s Equine Competition Team competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in Burbank, California May 8-11.
